The Fabulous Fenny Fender - Mark Fenichel - |
Fenny is, as Chubby has refered to him, the longest (standing) member of Chubbys All Stars. Like many other musicians, he started out with a set of drums as a kid, but when he first heard Sonny Terry's unique style, he set the drums aside for the harmonica. When he is not gracing us with his "Briefcase full 'o Soul", he plays his other bands, including The Felonius Blues Review, 5 O'Clock Shadow, and with anyone else who can sink their hooks into this phenomenal player. He has played with and opened for many wonderful musicians including Boz Scaggs, Chubby Checker, Joe Louis Walker, Booker T & The MG's, Roy Rogers, Big Daddy Kinsey, CJ Chenier, Jon Paris and JJ Malone. It was his union with Brownie McGhee that has, in his words, "made it all worthwhile!" "Fenny" accompanied headliner Brownie McGhee on the main stage at the 1995 Chicago Blues Festival and the Monterey Blues Festival. His harmonica style can be heard throughout Brownie's last recorded CD "Brownie's Blues" (released as an import in Sept. 1995). Fenny is also a freelance photographer and currently resides in San Jose with his wife and three children. He has worked for over twenty-five years in the media. |
